More Masamichi!

Masamichi is in the process of giving a work shop to some university students in the Dorrit Black building (UniSA) at the moment. I snuck in and took some pictures as is my style, definitely enjoying being a guerrilla journalist. Heard some funny conversations as well.

The project was to hand build an object of cylindrical shape but with no end design in mind. To simply react to the clay with emotion and instinct. What was created by those who participated is a material representation of the visceral, a culmination of the moment, of the time they spent making.

Masamichi made constant reference that clay is the most immediate of materials, a very honest medium which resonated very strongly with the project.

Mark Valenzuela… Last Full Show

I just heard about this show today through a friend of mine. I don’t know much about Mark but I think his work looks very interesting. His concept refers to the self and the ‘spaces’ we inhabit. Visually it looks quite stunning, I’m very interested to see what the exhibition at Nexus Gallery is like.

I think this is an exhibition not to be missed, please make an effort to see it!

Nexus is located within the Lion arts Precinct (close to JamFactory). The exhibition opening is on Thursday night, so expect it to be a busy night!

Tooled…

We are definitely edging soooo much closer to the Triennale, there’s a certain ceramics electricity in the air and spring is making everything flower and the days are beautiful. I don’t know about you guys but I’m feeling pretty inspired!

I went to the opening of ‘Tooled’ tonight, a lovely exhibition put together by Stephanie James-Manttan, Susan Frost and Charmain Hearder. If you wish to get a good example of South Australian ceramics I think you would do yourself well to visit this exhibition while the conference is on. It is being held at the Geoffery Stapleton Gallery, 95 Prospect road, Prospect.

Here are some photographs I took:

Steph’s work.

Susan’s work.

More of Susan’s work.

Hands on! I love seeing people pick up work! Just don’t drop it! Expensive!

Make sure you go see it!
