The Platter Project Auction for the 2012 Australian Ceramics Triennale.

The Auction is to be held at JamFactory with doors opening from 5.30pm on Wednesday 15^th of February, 2012. The Auction is a ticketed event with tickets available at a budget conscious $20 per head. Craftsouth are taking the bookings so call them on 8410 1822

Over the last few months we saw many of Adelaide’s talents and celebrities come in to JamFactory ceramics studio to paint a platter or two. I am of the understanding that production of the pieces has been ramped up over the last few weeks to meet the February 15^th deadline. There will be 50 pieces available for sale on the night, so while the sensible ticket cost will lure you in I hope the art encourages you to break that after Christmas budget a little!

Subversive Clay

The 2012 Australian Ceramics Triennale!

I have been receiving a lot of emails inquiring as to where the Triennale will be held, so I’ve decided to write a blog explaining where the Triennale will happen A majority of the event will be coordinated between three venues in Adelaide’s city west: Adelaide Centre for the Arts, The South Australian School of Art, Architecture and Design and JamFactory.

1. Adelaide Centre for the Arts. 39 Light Square.

The Adelaide Centre for the Arts (AC Arts) is part of Tafe SA’s Adelaide campus, which is located of Currie Street and Light Square in the CBD west. AC Arts offers training in ceramics alongside many other visual arts disciplines as well as performance arts and other creative areas. AC Arts’ has a large and well equipped ceramics studio which is lead by Bruce Nuske and has played host to many artists over its career. Next door to the ceramics is the AC Arts Gallery which will also be participating in the Triennale’s exhibitions.

3. Kaurna Building, UniSA City West Campus, Hindley Street.

2. Dorritt Black Building UniSA City West Campus, George Street

The South Australian School of Art, Architecture and Design (SASAAD)(formally The  South Australian School of Art or SASA) is part of the University of South Australia and is located in the Kaurna and Dorrit Black buildings of the university’s City West Campus which is not far from AC Arts in between Hindley street and North Terrace. SASAAD offers ceramics as one of many areas of specialization in its Bachelor of Visual Arts. Gabriella Bisetto has long been head of both the Glass and Ceramics studios but is on leave while Kirstie Rae takes care. SASAAD also boast the SASA Gallery on the Kaurna buildings bottom floor as its premier location for exhibitions, which I’m sure will be used to display some exciting work during the Trienalle.

4.JamFactory, 19 Morphett Street.

Also within walking distance is JamFactory, located just off Morphett street. The Jamfactory is one of Australia’s leading craft and design organizations. With 4 studios specializing in Ceramics, Glass, Furniture and Metal it caters to a wide cross section of trainees and professional artists. The ceramic studio head is Prue Venables who is assisted by Studio Production Manager David Pedlar and Studio assistant Kirsten Coelho.

JamFactory’s ceramic studio’s past is long and illustrious, with many significant ceramicists passing through the doors as either studio associates or artists in residence. I believe even Gwyn Hanssen Pigott spent some time there. With such a glorious history it is only fitting that JamFactory plays a significant role in the 2012 Australian Ceramics Triennale.

All three of the main venues will be holding workshops, artist demonstrations, artist talks and exhibitions throughout the length of the Triennale and providing a base for the more widespread events of the Triennale throughout the city.

Below is a map which shows the actual layout of the venues in regard to the city. As you can see they are all very close to each other.

Welcome to the official?!? blog for the 2012 Australian Ceramics Triennale. My name is Guy Ringwood and I will be your host for the next 14 months while the anticipation builds for the event.

I am new to the world of blogging so please bare with me as I become accustomed to this platform. I will be endeavouring to deliver you all some (hopefully!) interesting and unique insights into the event before and during its runnning.

Planning for the event is going well by all reports and while I can’t oblige you with details at the moment I will let them out of the hat as soon as I am able.

What I can tell you right now is that the event will be held in Adelaide from September 28th to October 1st 2012.

I plan on using this blog as a means of highlighting the depth of ceramics that will be in Australia in and around the Triennale so if anyone has anything they would like featured on the blog please do not hesitate to drop me a line on my email: guyringwoodceramics@gmail.com
